Silver Falls Generating Station

Silver Falls Generating Station is located on the Kaministiquia River System near Thunder Bay. The station’s single unit went into service in 1959 and has a maximum generating capacity of 48 MW.

Dog Lake is the main storage reservoir and head pond for Silver Falls GS. The inlet of the generating station is located on the south shore of the lake, approximately three km east of the lake’s natural outlet, the source of the Kaministiquia River.

Shebandowan Lake Control Dam

The Shebandowan Lake Control Dam is located on the Shebandowan River system at the east end of Shebandowan Lake. The dam has been rebuilt several times since it was first built in 1923.

Kashabowie Control Dam

Kashabowie Lake Dam is located at the south end of Kashabowie Lake, at the outlet flowing into the Kashabowie River and Shebandowan Lake. The dam was originally constructed in 1923 and last reconstructed in 1984. This dam is comprised of a single sluice and a spillwall.

Kakabeka Falls Generating Station

Kakabeka Falls Generating Station is located on the Kaministiquia River system adjacent to the village of Kakabeka Falls. This station went into service in 1906 with two generating units. Two additional units were added in 1911 and 1914, respectively. The station’s maximum generating capacity is 25 MW.

The Kakabeka Main Dam has one remotely controlled sluicegate and six stoplog sluices. Each sluice has ten stoplogs. The flow through the Main Dam goes over the falls at Kakabeka Provincial Park and the flow through the generating station bypasses the Provincial Park.

Upper Kam River (Dog River) at Hydroline

The hydroline gauge was installed in 2016 after high water events in 2008 and 2012. The gauge is used to monitor the elevation and flow through the Upper Kaministiquia River during times of high water.

Greenwater Lake Control Dam

The Greenwater Lake Control Dam is located at the south end of Greenwater Lake, at the outflow into Greenwater Creek and then into Shebandowan Lake. The dam was constructed in 1923 and rebuilt in 1943.
