Kakabeka Falls Generating Station is located on the Kaministiquia River system adjacent to the village of Kakabeka Falls. This station went into service in 1906 with two generating units. Two additional units were added in 1911 and 1914, respectively. The station’s maximum generating capacity is 25 MW.
The Kakabeka Main Dam has one remotely controlled sluicegate and six stoplog sluices. Each sluice has ten stoplogs. The flow through the Main Dam goes over the falls at Kakabeka Provincial Park and the flow through the generating station bypasses the Provincial Park.
