Mistinikon Lake Control Dam

The Mistinikon Lake Control Dam, also known as ‘Big Bend’, is located on the Montreal River at the outlet of Mistinikon Lake, approximately 14.5 km northwest of the town of Matachewan. The dam controls Mistinikon Lake flow into the Montreal River 38 km upstream of Chute GS. Mistinikon Lake Dam is preceded by Duncan Lake Dam on this river system and was originally built in 1922.

Lower Notch Generating Station

Lower Notch Generating Station is located at the mouth of the Montreal River on Lake Timiskaming and began operating in 1971. This station has two units and a maximum generating capacity of 274 MW, making it one of the largest peaking facilities in Ontario.

Lady Evelyn Lake Control Dam

The Lady Evelyn Lake Dam is located on the Mattawapika River, approximately 0.4 km upstream from its confluence with the Montreal River. This dam controls Lady Evelyn Lake flow into the Montreal River above Bay Lake. The original timber crib dam built in 1916 was replaced with a concrete structure in 1924.

Hound Chute Generating Station

Hound Chute Generating Station is a run-of-river station on the Montreal River located below Bay Lake, approximately 10 km south of the Town of Cobalt. The station was built in 1910 and in 2010, the station was redeveloped including modifications to the powerhouse and spillway structures. The two generating units in the redeveloped powerhouse is have a maximum generating capacity of 9 MW.

Chute Generating Station

Chute Generating Station is located on the Montreal River approximately 16 km northwest of the Town of Elk Lake. This run-of-river facility has two units and a maximum generating capacity of 3 MW.
