Lake Temagami

Temagami Lake is located on the Sturgeon River System and regulated by the Cross Lake Control Dam which was constructed in 1917. The dam consists of three sluices fitted with steel stoplogs and two concrete bulkheads. The dam was refurbished in 1999.

Tomiko Lake Control Dam

The Tomiko Lake Control Dam is located on the Sturgeon River System and was constructed in 1941 to regulate the level of Tomiko Lake, a reservoir immediately upstream of Crystal Falls GS. The dam consists of a concrete control structure and adjoining embankment type wing dam. The concrete control dam has two sluiceways, a bulkhead and an overflow spillway.

Red Cedar Lake Control Dams

The Red Cedar Lake Control Dams are located on the Sturgeon River System and were constructed in 1938. The north and south concrete control structures each have an associated block dam. These dams impound Red Cedar Lake which is an upper storage reservoir for hydroelectric developments on the Sturgeon River. The dams are located approximately 45 km north of the Town of Sturgeon Falls.

The south control dam consists of two stoplog sluices and a log chute (no longer in operation). The dam was refurbished in 2001 which included upgrades to the bulkhead walls and concrete repair. The north control dam consists of three stoplog sluices and a log chute (no longer in operation).

Crystal Falls Generating Station

Crystal Falls Generating Station is located on the Sturgeon River system near the Town of Sturgeon Falls. The station began operating in 1921 has four units with a maximum generating capacity of 8 MW.
