Bala Reach

The Bala Reach Control Dam is located on the Muskoka River system in the Town of Bala and began operating in 1873. This dam controls water levels on Lake Muskoka and flows into the Moon River as part of the regulated Muskoka River system. OPG has a gauge at the Bala Reach.

Trethewey Falls Generating Station

Trethewey Falls Generating Station is located on the Muskoka River system and was constructed in 1929. This is a run-of-river facility located in the Town of Bracebridge. It has one unit with a maximum generating capacity of 2 MW.

South Falls Generating Station

South Falls Generating Station is located on the Muskoka River system near the Town of Bracebridge and began operating in 1907. It is a run-of-river generating station with three units and a maximum generating capacity of 6 MW.

Ragged Rapids Generating Station

Ragged Rapids Generating Station is located on the Musquash River system in the Town of Bala and began operating in 1938. The station has two units with a maximum generating capacity of 8 MW.

Moon River Control Dam

The Moon Dam is located on the Moon River in the Town of Bala, less than one km downstream from its junction with the Musquash River. The dam stores and directs water away from the Moon River and into the Musquash to provide flow for Big Eddy and Ragged Rapids Generating Stations.

Hanna Chute Generating Station

Hanna Chute Generating Station is located on the Muskoka River in the Town of Bracebridge and began operating in 1926. This run-of-river station has one unit with a maximum generating capacity of 1 MW.

Big Eddy Generating Station

Big Eddy Generating Station is located on the Musquash River in the Town of Bala, approximately seven km downstream from Ragged Rapids Generating Station. The station has two units with a maximum generating capacity of 8 MW and began operating in 1941.
